There are several hazzards in breeding your pet budgies, understand that if not done properly and if you are not prepared your budgie could die!!!!!
Now that being said you must ensure that your birds are of proper breeding age and health.some people say that a female bird is ok to be bred at 6 months others say that 1 year is the best age, I am not going to say which is better but I personally wait til 1 year only because I feel at 6 months they are still babies themselves.before you start the breeding process or even set up the breeder cage you should give your breeder couple plenty of time to bond, some couples will not bond I don't know the reason why but if this is the case with your pair you should replace the male or the female with another of the opposite sex and allow them to bond. You will know when 2 budgies are bonding if they are preening eachother and feeding each from their mouths thay are very affectionate.

The laying box: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEp-sdyjiPA&feature=player_detailpage
The laying box should be around 10"x10"x10". It should have an easy access door on the side and inside you should have circle about 4 inches in diameter cut in a concave fashion(like a bowl)it should be about 2 inches deep this prevents splayed legs.you should have a paper like material that the parents can use to pad there nest.visit the site above for some how to.
Laying:
Once begun the female budgie will lay an egg about once every other day until she lays between 4-8 eggs sometimes more.It may sometimes be necessary if the female gets egg bound to help her pass the egg this takes some delicacy because if you break the egg inside of her will DIE.To help her you should fill a bowl with warm water and set her bottom in it if this does not work you need to take your thumb and fore finger and gently find the top of the egg which you should be able to feel quite easily and gently coax the egg towards and out of the vent one last warning Be Careful.Once the egg is out let the mother recover in her box until she is well.
Sitting:
The mother will sit on the eggs for about 18-20 days only coming out to eat and deficate.Sometimes the mother will push the eggs out of the nest some say that its because she knows that they are not fertile. If they are not fertile they will not hatch. If the mother sits on the eggs and they don"t hatch within 20-24 days you should discard the eggs or they will rot.
After care:
Sometimes it is necessary after the chicks are born to feed them by hand but only if the mother is not fulfilling her duties. The chicks will leave the nest when they are ready but you must keep an eye on them throughout the process to ensure that they are healthy, Also it is proper to take the chicks to the vet when they are old enough.

It should be a cage that is about 30"x 30"x30" and it should have two perches, a cuttlebone, mineral block, and a laying box(I will go into greater detail later on the box). The cage should have a flat bottom with no grate, if it has a grate that is not removable put black and white print newspaper on it.you should also be feeding them lots of fruits and greens and eggs(I use cooked scrambled eggs).
