Raising Chickens in your backyard

There is a great interest in raising chickens whether it be for egg production, meat, or as pets so I will touch on this A little bit since for the past 6 years I have dabbled in this field and done extensive research.

First thing is chickens are a very resilliant creature by nature. They are programmed to do what comes natural and will do only that, and everything is they do is centered around survival and procreation. If you you are thinking about getting chickens as a pet to cuddle with or to train Think Again in all seriousness chickens are not that type of pet, Not to say that thay are a bad pet.

Requirements:

Chickens require very little to survive and even less so if they are free range or "yard chickens" as they are called here in the south. If you strip their needs down to bare necessities you get 1.FOOD, 2.WATER.
thats it kids as I said they are very resilliant!!

Keeping Chickens in an inclosure:

If you choose to go the route of an enclosure and only expect a pet you should make sure that you have ample room for the number of chickens that you have. There should be a shelter that will keep the poultry out of the rain and other elements. There should be a watering aparatus that is sufficient enough for the number of chickens you are keeping , there are a large number of options from modified milk jugs to store bought watering aparatuses. This completely up to the owner.Lastley you should decide whether or not you are going to have something to put feed in or scatter it and let them scratch for it.
